- De minibusjes op en rond Victory Monument verkassen naar een parkeerterrein onder station Makassan. De junta wil met die maatregel een eind maken aan de chaotische verkeerssituatie op en rond het plein. Maandag begint een proefperiode; 1 juli is het afgelopen op Victory. Gisteren heeft legercommandant Chalermpol Srisawat, belast met verkeersproblemen, gesproken met Jumpol Khananurak, adjunct-hoofd verkeerszaken van het politiebureau Phayathai, over de problemen met de minibusjes. Ze zijn het eens geworden over strenge maatregelen bij overtreding van de maximumsnelheid [zeg maar: veel chauffeurs rijden als een gek], snijden van andere wagens en gevaarlijke inhaalmanoeuvres. Exploitanten die hun busje nog niet hebben geregistreerd, dienen dat onmiddellijk te doen.

Noodtoestand in Bangkok

In Bangkok wordt al weken geprotesteerd tegen de regering van premier ShinawatraEPA De Thaise regering heeft voor de hoofdstad Bangkok en omliggende provincies de noodtoestand afgekondigd. Die geldt in elk geval voor zestig dagen en is bedoeld om een eind te maken aan de onrust.
In Bangkok wordt al weken geprotesteerd door anti-regeringsbetogers. Ze eisen het aftreden van de in hun ogen corrupte regering van premier Shinawatra. De afgelopen tijd hebben betogers delen van Bangkok geblokkeerd. Op verscheidene plekken kwam het ook tot geweld tegen betogers. Er vielen doden en tientallen gewonden. Censuur. Door het afkondigen van de noodtoestand kunnen samenscholingen worden verboden, wat protest onmogelijk zou maken. Ook kunnen mensen zonder verdenking of aanklacht worden opgepakt en vastgehouden. Verder krijgen de autoriteiten bevoegdheden om de media te censureren. Volgens correspondent Michel Maas zijn de betogers niet van plan om naar huis te gaan. "Het is dan ook de vraag of die extra bevoegdheden de komende tijd zullen worden gebruikt en op wat voor manier."

Groei Toerisme Zuid Oost Azie!!

Het gaat goed met het mondiale toerisme. In 2013 is het aantal toeristen wereldwijd, dat een vakantie in het buitenland doorbracht, gestegen met vijf procent. De VN-Wereld Toerisme Organisatie (UNWTO) die dit cijfer bekendmaakte, zegt dat de groei boven verwachting is.
Vorig jaar gingen 1.087 miljoen toeristen op reis naar hun vakantiebestemming. Maar liefst 52 miljoen reizigers meer dan in 2012.
Vooral Zuidoost-Azië (+10 procent) is favoriet en trok meer toeristen dan voorheen, gevolgd door Midden- en Oost-Europa (+7 procent) en de Middellandse Zee-landen (+6 procent).
De UNWTO verwacht voor 2014 een verdere toename van het internationale toerisme met zo’n 4,5 procent. Daarbij houdt de organisatie rekening met een relatief herstel van de wereldeconomie.

Alternatieve access to and from Don Mueang AirPort!

Airports of Thailand (AOT) has provided alternative road maps to and from Don Mueang airport to get around traffic problems caused by the demonstration beginning on January 13. Passengers are also advised to reach the airport three hours in advance for international flight check-in and two hours for domestic to ensure smooth departures. Don Mueang general manager Chaturongkapon Sodmanee said there are alternative roads to Don Mueang airport which the travelling public are advised to take if the two main roads - Vibhavadi-Rangsit Road and the Don Mueang Tollway - became problematic. From the inner Bangkok, the public should take Chaeng Watana Expressway, exiting at Sri Saman, then heading towards Song Prabha road till its end, turning left to Cherd Wuthakat road, straight on till a three-way junction, turning right crossing the railway tracks to take the U-turn bridge where the sign of Don Mueang can be seen, onward to get into the in-bound Vibhavadi Rangsit road and to get to the airport through ``Tor Dor Mor 3’’ and ``Tor Do Mor 4’’ channels. The other access to the airport is through the out-bound Kanchanapisek Road heading towards Bang Pa-In, keeping left to exit at Lamlukka. Then, follow the Phaholyothin sign to get to the Lamlukka Road for about 400 metres, turning left to cross a canel. At the end of the road, turn left and taking a U-turn with the ``Rangsit’’ sign, keeping left to enter Vibhavadi-Rangsit Road before taking "Entrance 3" and "Entrance 4’’ channels. In addition, Don Mueang Airport has set aside areas within the cargo terminals and the 5-storey car park (situated between cargo terminals #2 and #3 with the capacity of 1,500 cars) where members of the public affected by the demonstration can park their vehicles for free. AOT has coordinated with the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) to also provide free regular shuttle bus services between the cargo terminals to Don Mueang train station to offer an alternative transportation mode to get into and out of inner Bangkok. Here how the event has unfolded: 2am: A hundred of Thai citizens and students living in New York City stage a rally at Time Square to give support to anti-government protesters in Thailand. They call their rally as "occupy New York". 8:30 am: Army chief Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha holds meeting with senior Army officers, including deputy Army chief Gen Udomdet Sitabutr and Army chief-of-staff Gen Aksara Kerdphol to assess the situation. 08.45 am: PDRC workers set up a tent and gates for entering the rally site at the Pathumwan Intersection. Former deputy Democrat leader Chaiwut Bannawat starts making speech at the intersection. Academics from Chulalongkorn University and Thammasart University join the rally. 9:00 am: PDRC secretary-general Suthep Thaugsuban leads a huge procession of protesters to move from the Democracy Monument to other rally sites. 9.35am: Suthep reaches Larn luang. Volgens voorzitter Payungsak Chartsuthipol van de Federation of Thai Industries nemen aankooporders af, dalen de winsten, zijn de binnenlandse bestedingen matig en verslechtert het investeringsklimaat. Gisteren vergaderde het Joint Standing Committee on Commerce, Industry and Banking over de situatie. Wat de heren besloten hebben, wordt niet erg duidelijk uit het artikel. Issara Vongkusolkit, voorzitter van de Thai Chamber of Commerce, zegt zoiets als: de bedrijven moeten hun voorzorgsmaatregelen snel nemen om meer negatieve gevolgen te voorkomen wanneer de protesten voortduren. Bangkok Post bericht ook over de maatregelen bij 7-Eleven, de Big-C winkels en MBK. Volgens het fotobijschrift zouden klanten aan het hamsteren zijn geslagen, maar in het artikel staat daarover geen woord. De drie bedrijven zeggen voorbereid te zijn op de acties. Ze gaan met kleinere voertuigen hun winkels bevoorraden, zodat ze bij blokkades een sluipweggetje kunnen nemen en voorraden worden vergroot. MBK heeft voor zeven dagen butagas ingeslagen zodat de tachtig restaurants in het complex even vooruit kunnen. 7-Eleven verwacht weinig problemen omdat de winkels ’s nachts worden bevoorraad, ook met kleine vrachtwagens. Juist als je niet jezelf bent of voelt, je ongemakkelijk voelt, dan ben je goed bezig. Doe die dingen die je niet vaak doet en waar je jezelf ongemakkelijk bij voelt juist wel vaker! Dan maak je op dat moment nieuwe hersenverbindingen, dan ontwikkel je persoonlijk en kun je je eigen pad van succes creëren en ben je niet meer afhankelijk van dingen uit het verleden. Creëer een nieuwe ik. Hiervoor zijn verschillende technieken, maar het begint bij het bewust worden van de situatie waarin je je nu bevind en waar je naartoe gaat. Als je je bewust bent van je denken, kun je jezelf daarin corrigeren – je weet nu waarom- WAT EEN GELUK, het is volledig menselijk dat iedereen handelt zoals ze gewend zijn te doen in zijn of haar wereldmodel en conditionering van hun brein, maar WAT EEN GELUK, dat als je graag anders zou willen je ook anders kan! Je hebt namelijk wel KEUZEVRIJHEID, je bent niet zoals je bent, je kunt worden zoals je zou willen zijn. Je moet alleen willen. Weet dat er een gedeelte is in jouw brein, (amygdala), er alles aan doet je ervan te weerhouden (dat kleine stemmetje) om iets anders te doen dan je gewend bent? Wil jij iets doen wat nieuw is, anders is, buiten je comfortzone is, dan zal je brein je daarvoor een onbehaaglijk gevoel geven en je laten geloven dat je het beter niet kunt doen. Dat doet jouw brein om te “overleven”. Jouw wilskracht moet wel zo sterk zijn om dat te doorbreken, dit is meestal erg moeilijk. Maar heb je dit eenmaal gedaan, dan is het een kwestie van regelmatig (dagelijkse basis) herhalen (min. 3 maanden) en dan zit ook dit ‘nieuwe’ in je 2e natuur, je onderbewuste. Ook als je een negatief momentum hebt gehad, (bijv. een NEE te horen hebt gekregen, of je hebt ergens met passie aan gewerkt en je hebt het gevoel dat het voor “niets” is geweest……….) probeer jezelf te hervatten en door te gaan, zonder daar aandacht aan te schenken. Pak je leermoment, wees daar dankbaar voor……..en ga! Bijt je erin vast en leer, val, sta weer op en klim langzaam omhoog. “Winners never Quit!” (winnaars stoppen nooit!) Ik herinner me nog die 1e keer dat ik autorijles kreeg, ik moest overal bij nadenken, kreeg zweet in mijn oksels, tijdelijke stress, voelde me meer dan ongemakkelijk. Nu kom ik op plaats van bestemming zonder er over na te denken, het gaat automatisch. Ondanks dat ik wel eens een aanrijding heb gehad, ben ik toch heel erg blij dat ik niet gestopt ben met autorijden! “Hoe komt het dat je dingen doet, zoals je ze doet? Hoe kun je het anders gaan doen?” Wees sterker dan je brein, vergeet niet dat je brein probeert je telkens weer in je comfortzone te plaatsen. Je bent sterker op het moment dat je weet WAAROM het zou willen doen. Als je alles zo gedetailleerd mogelijk beschrijft voor jezelf in de voltooid tegenwoordige tijd (alsof je het al hebt behaald) met een datum en je schrijft het meetbaar op, dus je kunt nagaan of je al op de juiste weg zit…………….en je gelooft ook werkelijk dat je het gaat bereiken, (niet te hoog gegrepen, desnoods met subdoelen) dan gaat het jou ook zeker lukken. Dan ben je sterk genoeg om persoonlijke groei door te maken. Maar weet WAAROM, ONTWIKKEL DIE VISIE…….dus, Live, The Life, You Love

Beurs voor bijzondere reizen in Maastricht

Beurs voor Bijzondere Reizen in Maastricht De ‘Vakantiebeurs voor Bijzondere Reizen’ is op 11 en 12 januari voor het eerst in Maastricht te vinden. In het beurs- en congrescentrum MECC presenteren bijna honderd kleinschalige reisorganisatoren zich aan het publiek. Het gaat merendeels om specialistische bedrijfjes - soms zogeheten ‘eenpitters' - voor reizen naar aparte bestemmingen zoals Iran en Ethiopië, maar ook bijvoorbeeld Poolreizen of kloosterwandelingen. Een week voor het weekend in het MECC, is de derde Amsterdamse editie van de beurs. Die is in de Beurs van Berlage. „Bij bijzondere reizen praten we niet over massatoerisme, maar over allerlei authentieke vormen van reizen met organisatoren die zelf een enorme kennis over het gebied van bestemming hebben”, zegt beursorganisator Boudewijn Richel. De eerste beurs in Amsterdam trok meer dan 4500 bezoekers. Een aantal waar organisator Richel nu ook in Maastricht op mikt. Kaarten voor de beurs kosten in de voorverkoop 9,70 euro en straks aan de kassa 12 euro.

Toeristen moeten waakzaam zijn ivm situatie Bangkok!!

Toeristen uit 16 landen, waaronder Nederland, worden opgeroepen om weg te blijven uit de gebieden waar de demonstraties plaatsvinden. Hoewel de protesten tot nu toe vreedzaam verlopen kan de situatie omslaan en uitmonden in geweld. De zestien landen die hun onderdanen waarschuwen zijn: Groot-Brittannië, Frankrijk, Zweden, Japan, Taiwan, Canada, Australië, Israël, Brazilië, Singapore, Nederland. België, Spanje, Noorwegen, Duitsland en Hongarije. Reizen van en naar Bangkok Toeristen die van en naar Bangkok reizen worden opgeroepen om zoveel mogelijk gebruik te maken van de Airport Rail Link en de BTS Skytrain. Door de demonstraties is het verkeer in Bangkok een chaos. Reizigers lopen daardoor het risico om hun vlucht te missen. Geadviseerd wordt om ruim op tijd naar de luchthaven te vertrekken en vooral gebruik te maken van de Airport Rail Link. De BTS Skytrain zal extra treinen inzetten om de het aanbod van reizigers te kunnen verwerken, zo schrijft The Nation.

Chiang Mai hosts Hollywood film shoot

Chiang Mai has been chosen as the shooting location for Hollywood's ‘The Coup’ with the shooting already started this week until Dec 20, according to the province’s Public Relations Department.
Ubonrat Kongkraphan, Chiang Mai public relations officer, said Bold Films, with the cooperation with Film Board of Thailand, brought "The Coup" production to Chiang Mai. Shooting started on Nov 3, according to a report in Khaosod.
The production team has presented its scripts and received approval for the use of equipment from the province. After finishing the shooting in each part, the film will be examined first by the province.
"The Coup" is about an American family moving to a new home in an Asian country and finds itself caught in the middle of a coup, so the father tries to find a safe escape for his family. It is directed by John Erick Dowdle and stars Owen Wilson, Pierce Brosnan and Michelle Monaghan. The film is scheduled to be released in 2014.
Ms Ubonrat said large settings had been created with shooting running for the whole day. So it was the first time for Chiang Mai to experience a large-scale film production. She said she hoped Chiang Mai would be recognised as a destination for international film shoots in the future.
Besides investment in the production, Chiang Mai is also benefiting from the employment of extras in the film and hotel occupancy.
Chiang Mai was earlier the location for the shooting of the Chinese comedy film “Lost in Thailand”. Since its release at the end of last year, Chiang Mai has become a destination for many Chinese tourists.
In 2012, more than 500 foreign films and documentaries were made using Thailand as a location. It was expected that film shoots would reach as many as 700 in 2013, according to Thai Film Office under the Tourism Authority of Thailand.

Herfst,Wintertijd........Hua Hin!!

Nu de herfst is begonnen, de wintertijd is ingegaan en de dagen weer kouder en donkerder worden, verlangen we alweer naar de zomer en warme temperaturen. Denkt  dan eens aan de warmte van de Thaise zon, de gastvrijheid van de Thaise bevolking en de mooie stranden met azuurblauw water van de zee.

Loy Krathong 2013

- De Tourism Authority of Thailand heeft haar jaarlijkse Loy Krathong festiviteiten uitgesteld omdat ze in de rouwperiode vallen, die is ingesteld na het overlijden van de Supreme Patriarch, maar overheidsorganisaties en de particuliere sector kunnen op 17 november gerust feestvieren. Het kantoor van de premier heeft dat bekendgemaakt.

World Tour

Wow, Europe was a big succes with more than 1000 beautiful moments. Thank you all for that! Shall we also make Asia a great succes? I want to make 1000 people happy on each continent, simply by walking up to them and asking if they would like to draw a beautiful moment from the previous week. Usually I do this on the train. People take their headphones off, become more cheerful and start talking to each other. I’ve noticed that beautiful moments can help. Beautiful moments are like balls of energy when you remember them or read about them, they make you feel good all over again. I keep a record of my own beautiful moments and that helps me to fall asleep more easily at night, even on more difficult days. I would like to share this idea and make people happy by showing them how a beautiful moment can make you feel. In Belgrad (2)In the last two years I have collected more than 4000 drawings of beautiful moments in the Netherlands. And 1000 beautiful moments in Europe. That would make a party banner almost 700 metres long! Beautiful moments don’t stop at the border and neither does my curiosity. Therefore I’m on a world tour and want to collect 1000 beautiful moments per continent. By taking this into the wide world I can make more people happier, and I’m interested in the differences between cultures as well. Are the beautiful moments that people draw in India different to those in Denmark, for example? I want to collect 1000 beautiful moments per continent and interview people about how they are able to view the positive side of the world. Afterwards, the Seize Your Moments World Tour will be made into a book and an exhibition. After Europe, the next step is Asia and for that I need a lot of help. You can support me in numerous ways. With money, but also withplaces to sleep (maybe you have friends living in a country I visit), with train and plain tickets, with a good idea to make this journey even more awesome, organizing, contacts with local media and film makers or with a drawing of a beautiful moment from your last week. Mijn kasboek: Janne over hoe zij met geld omgaat

Elke week kijken De Telegraaf en OverGeld.nl mee in de portemonnee van een willekeurige Nederlander. Waar gaat uw geld naartoe, kunt u makkelijk rondkomen of heeft u heimelijke genoegens die wel wat kosten? Deze week hebben we in deze rubriek Janne uit Zeist.

'Mijn baan en huis heb ik opgezegd om de wereld over te reizen om mooie momenten te verzamelen. In de trein, waar dan ook, vraag ik medereizigers om zo'n moment op een blanco ansichtkaart te tekenen. Ik hoop mensen een stukje blijer te maken door hen daarover te laten nadenken.

Via crowdfunding heb ik geld ingezameld, waardoor ik in elk geval heel Europa door kan reizen. Hierna wil ik naar Azië. Ik heb geleerd om niet in geld te denken, maar in wat ik nodig heb. Ik heb soms meer aan een gratis slaapplek, die ik via couchsurfing.org regel, dan aan 10 euro.
Via oproepjes op mijn Facebookpagina en door bedrijven gewoon te benaderen, heb ik al kleding, treinkaartjes en een laptop geregeld. Als je een goed verhaal hebt en deelt wat je wilt, lukt het. Ik heb nu minder geld dan voorheen, maar veel meer mogelijkheden. Het is zo gaaf om te zien hoe mensen bereid zijn om te helpen.

Ik heb een dagbudget in mijn hoofd en weet precies wat ik waaraan kan uitgeven. Ook houd ik een kasboek bij en bewaar ik mijn bonnetjes. Als ik klaar ben met reizen, zit ik zonder huis en vaste baan. Maar dan heb ik wel heel veel verhalen zodat ik een boek kan schrijven en lezingen kan geven."

Railway Hotel Hua Hin. Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villa's

A postcard dated 15th January 1936 and depicting the Railway Hotel in Hua Hin has recently come to light in the records of Centara Hotels & Resorts, who today own and operate the hotel as Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Hua Hin.
The hotel is about to celebrate its 90th birthday, having opened in October 1922 and had its grand opening on 1st January 1923. Regarded as one of the classic hotels of the East, and earlier this year enlisted as a member of the Leading Hotels of the World, the property dates back to the time when Hua Hin itself was evolving into Thailand's first beach resort. "The railway era brought great changes to Siam, as Thailand was then known," says Thirayuth Chirathivat, chief executive officer of Centara Hotels & Resorts. "There were very few roads into the provincial areas, and places such as Hua Hin were known only to the local population. When the railway was built from Bangkok down to Malaysia, it suddenly became possible for the aristocracy of the day to travel to Hua Hin, and to enjoy the beach and the ocean."
The beauty of Hua Hin was realised by the engineers surveying the southern railway route in 1909. Land was set aside for a station, and when the first section of the line opened in 1911 Hua Hin became a destination where wealthy Bangkok residents built their holiday homes. The southern line to Malaysia was completed in 1921, making it possible to travel between Bangkok, Malaysia and Singapore by train. Royal Siamese Railways (RSR) directed Italian architect A Rigazzi to build a hotel, and at the same time commissioned a Scottish engineer named AO Robins to lay out a golf course. The Railway Hotel initially had only 14 guestrooms, but it was very well appointed and furnished and had an excellent standard of service to cater for its wealthy Thai and foreign guests. By 1928 the hotel's reputation was international and, in order to accommodate the growing number of visitors to Hua Hin, RSR added a new wing of 13 rooms, which were built to the exact same design as the already existing building. After World War Two more guestrooms were added, along with three restaurants, a downstairs bar, and a lobby with a panoramic view of Hua Hin's glorious bay. The value of the Railway Hotel as a building of architectural and historic interest was fully acknowledged by the Thai Government when in 1986 Central Group, the parent company of Centara Hotels & Resorts, acquired the property, the preservation of the old buildings and the extensive gardens being an important condition of the contract. The much-loved historical building has been meticulously preserved, with all the subsequent additions being designed to blend perfectly with the existing structure and to maintain the air of elegance and leisure into which the hotel was born. Hua Hin meanwhile has developed into a royal town, a resort known worldwide for its quiet charm, the old golf course now known as Royal Hua Hin Golf Course, the Hua Hin Railway Station regarded as an architectural design marvel, and Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Hua Hin renowned as the centre of the town's social life, as it was in the 1920s, and all the way through the subsequent decades. "We regard ourselves as the custodians of this important part of Thailand's history, and consider it our privilege to be able to present the best of Thai service tradition to the world," says Mr Thirayuth. "Having this lovely old hotel included as one of the Leading Hotels of the World is a great delight and honour for us, and our promise is that this heritage property will be maintained for the generations to come." Mr Thirayuth says that postcards featuring the hotel were very popular, and that the 1936 card was found amongst a collection of memorabilia, some of which can now be seen in The Museum Coffee & Tea Corner, which is set in the original hotel lobby. "The guest was clearly loving his travel experience, and our mission today is to provide a hospitality experience that exceeds expectations," he says.

Transport Minister Chadchart Suttipunt ordered The State Railway of Thailand on Monday to revive the old Ratchathani Hotel at Hua Lamphong station in a drive to generate revenue for the cash-strapped agency. The minister also directed SRT governor Prapas Chongsanguan to carry out wide-ranging improvements to facilities at railway stations across the country with the backing of the Thailand Creative and Design Centre. Better bathrooms, platform areas, lighting and ticketing systems will be top priorities. Each station will be uniquely designed in accordance with the culture of the area in which it is located, he said. He did not specify when the renovations process will start, but said it would take "a while" to complete. As part of the scheme, the old Ratchathani Hotel in Hua Lamphong, now used as an office building, will be revived as a boutique hotel to generate revenue for the agency. Hua Lamphong will be the first station to undergo refurbishment, Mr Chatchart said. The ministry will then use it as model to make changes to stations across the country. The SRT used to run a chain of Ratchathani Hotels in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Hua Hin and Hat Yai, better known as railway hotels.
The hotels in Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Hat Yai went out of business and the Hua Hin branch was rented out for a private firm to operate.

OVERSTROMING HUA HIN...!

Prachuap Khiri Khan: In de stad Hua Hin is water afgevoerd naar zee, zodat de situatie er verbetert. In drie dorpen staat 50 tot 70 cm water. Het dorp Huay Sat Yai is afgesneden van de buitenwereld, de waterval Pa La-u is gesloten. Uit het district Sam Rot Yoi worden eveneens overstromingen gemeld. In de districten Hua Hin en Sam Roi Yot zijn meer dan 1.000 gezinnen getroffen.
